To read or not to read?
The other day I received an interesting email asking how I found a particular site. Now, I’m guessing the author didn’t mean what link I found it from, or how I came across it, but instead what my experience of the site was and why did I read it.
It was an interesting question, and one which made me think. The blog in question covers many different things, from the geeky side of life (Apple, OS X and gadgets) to some more questionable things like hacking CS3 betas so they last forever and how to hack a WEP encryption.
Now the reason I read it, is for the geeky stuff, the little gadgets etc which I find an interest in. I guess most people would read it for that reason if they had an interest in such things. After receiving the email, I tried to envisage why the sender would ask such a question. The highlighted the fact I am a Christian in the email as they asked how a 22 year old student finds the site in question. It got me thinking, should I really be reading the site if they post some quite questionable things, as previously mentioned?
It’s something I’m still thinking about, but it made me want to pose the question to you guys. Do you just read what you come across and the posts in your RSS without really thinking about it? Even if they are amongst acceptable content, should you still be reading those blogs if they have some stuff in that you don’t agree with?
edit: Just realised I didn’t have a title for this, don’t know how that slipped by!
