England are bidding for the World Cup in 2018

England are bidding for the World Cup in 2018. Great news. But I hope we win again before then, we’ve only hosted it once, and we won it. Maybe a repeat performance?
Edit: Fixed the link. Thanks Dad!

10 Years of the BBC News Web Site

The BBC look at how we might consume news in the next decade, after their news website turns 10. Vint Cerf, Google’s internet evangelist, hit’s it on the head for me.
He believes that the demand for information will make the craft of journalism as valued as ever - but that news gatherers will lose [...]

Adium X A/V

With all the talk and focus on Leopard, the Adium X team made a pretty significant announcment, that as far as I’m aware has gone pretty unnoticed. The guys are working on getting A/V into Adium and Libpurple. Currently GTalk has the ability to receive audio and with the help of Farsight the [...]

Shell Wildlife Photography Awards

The Winners from the Shell Wildlife Photography Awards. I like the Polar Bear, Duck and Elephant.

Wireless Music

Griffin have a new speaker system out called Evolve. They work as powered speakers on your home stereo or as a stereo with your iPod plugged in. The best bit. You can pick the speakers up and take them with you around the house. No need to point the speakers out [...]

Mac Sales Up

John Gruber reports on the recent sales figures from Apple. Superb for iPod and growing for iPhone, but the biggie lies in Mac sales. Up by 400,000 compared to the same quarter a year ago, at a time where sales should be lower due to the coming Leopard release.
What we’re seeing now is [...]

Leopard Dock Tweak

It seems Apple have heard the cries. Apparently there is a new dock style for the dock when it’s positioned on the left or right. I’m quite relieved. I’ve been a dock on the left person since I first used OS X so having a dock that works on the left means [...]

GMail IMAP

Google have begun rolling out IMAP support for GMail. I’ve wanted this for ages, mainly for the use of GMail’s spam filter.
I was a bit disappointed that I didn’t have it on my accounts yet, but it seems they are rolling it out to everyone in the next few days.

Address Book and Yahoo

When Apple announced the iPhone back in January one of the features they touted was a free Push IMAP Yahoo email account to all iPhone customers. Since iPhone launched this little feature has seen very little press coverage, if any, but it is important in understanding why Address Book in Leopard syncs with the [...]

Trying to find the perfect pen?

Trying to find the perfect pen? This is an interesting little test of 6 pens. Being a graphic designer I like to use a nice pen, I’d recommend Muji pens which aren’t in trial, but are cheap and nice to use.
Edit: Oops! Thanks Ben!

3rd Party Apps are coming

3rd party apps for the iPhone are coming, with Apple hoping to have an SDK in developers hands in February.
I guess this means they will be coming for the iPod touch as well.

Adium 1.2 Goodies

The Adium blog details a few of the features set to arrive in the coming Adium 1.2 including some nice stuff with the Menu Duck and some new features for the MSN protocol. I’m certainly looking forward to the latter items, although not many details were given.

iTS DRM free tracks price drop

The cost of iTunes Plus DRM free tracks at the iTS have dropped to the same price as the DRM tracks. It means a return to the single price strategy for songs and represents another step won in the battle against DRM.

R.I.P. PhilPod

On my birthday and the few days after, you may have seen me talking about the death of my iPod, otherwise known as PhilPod. I think the HDD in it has failed, when I plug it into my Mac it whirrs, pops and clicks and doesn’t register at all in iTunes. On the [...]

The Count Down Begins

The count down to Leopard begins!

Maniacal rage

Just wanted to point you to the cool redesign. I really like the simplicity of it all. (via)

Jackie Stewart rightly says the FIA are in danger of becoming big brother.
I still can’t believe that the FIA have send someone in to make sure the team treats the drivers fairly. If the cars were red and had a prancing horse on the bonnet would they be doing it? I don’t think [...]

Colour!

.flickr-photo { border: solid 2px #000000; }
.flickr-yourcomment { }
.flickr-frame { text-align: left; padding: 3px; }
.flickr-caption { font-size: 0.8em; margin-top: 0px; }

From green to red, originally uploaded by aremac.

Just came across the photo stream of Ulrich Mueller on Flickr. He likes colour, and these are seriously good. I really like this one, but wanted [...]

In Rainbows cover

Really stylish cover design for the new Radiohead album In Rainbows. Discovered it thanks to this post by Jon Hicks.

iPhone Webapps

Apple today released their Web Apps page specifically for the iPhone and iPod touch. It lists all the web sites that have been specifically for the iPhone thanks to Apple’s web development kit.
