MySpace Wins Fight for myspace.co.uk Domain Name

MySpace Wins Fight for myspace.co.uk Domain Name
When I first read the title I was annoyed and chalked up another point of why I don’t like MySpace. But this little snippet kinda made me change my mind, I still don’t like MySpace but I also don’t like how the use of the site appears to [...]

MarsEdit 2.1

A new release of MarsEdit greeted me when I got home. It presents a few nice features s well as speed enhancements, I’ll let the MarsEdit guys do the talking.

In summary, MarsEdit 2.1 has a new search feature, a new capsule-based tags editor, support for Movable Type tags, support for saving drafts to the [...]

Twitter for Academia

Fascinating account of how a lecturer is using Twitter as a part of his class.
Surprisingly Twitter is actually good for teaching grammar. Why? Because of its short form those who tweet often abbreviate and abuse grammar rules, developing their own unique ‘twitter rules.’ This helps to demonstrate, both how all communication needs rules/structure and how [...]

Advanced Web Typography Using CSS

Advanced Web Typography using CSS.
“A very simple way to use more advanced fonts on the web.”
Something I think I might be trying out in future designs for Electric Weekend. I’d recently been wondering how I could specify lighter weights without having to use an image, especially as my logo is based on Josh’s sample [...]

Cheaper Wi-Fi iPods

AppleInsider has an interesting article looking at the possible future for the iPod.
I’d like to see some of it happen, although tieing it all to my iTunes account scares me a little bit. I do like prospect of cheaper touch screen wi-fi enabled iPods.

iPhonesque Growl

Really nice Growl style based on the iPhone bezel.

Openswitch Redesign

Ben’s been at it again!
This time he’s moved from the clean white which many of his design’s have included and gone all dark. Have to say I’m really liking this latest iteration.

BusySync 2 Sneaky Peek

The Unofficial Apple Weblog take a look at the up-coming BusySync gCal feature. It looks very slick and seems to be a very viable .Mac replacement if all you want to sync is the calendar.

Innovating Search

The Official Google Blog details some of the new experimental search views they are trying. I’m just off to go and test a few, I plan on reporting back on my experiences in about a week, just so they get a decent bit of use.

Visualizing the Bible

Fantastic method of demonstrating the cross-referenicng that takes place in the Bible. Some really nice images that are created, and actually really hammered home to me just how much the Bible quotes itself.

A Fragile Net

I’ve noticed, thanks to Mint, that I get quite a few hits for one particular Google search. Actually it’s a Google image search and well it’s a rather unusual one as well. Back when the London 2012 Olympic committee announced the logo for the games, I wrote a piece about it and compared [...]

Quantum of Solace

The official title of the 22nd Bond film is…….. Quantum of Solace. Taken from an Ian Flemming short story but it has no direct link to the plot.
I really enjoyed the first Daniel Craig Bond movie. I’d lost interest in the over commercial end of the Brosnan era and Craig really brought me [...]

OliveToast - Purveyors of fine Macintosh software

A great little plugin for Mail.app that brings iTunes like green button behaviour to Mail. I’m giving it a test run and it seems very polished.

A Touch Dilemma

Ever since the Macworld keynote I’ve been wrestling with a strong wish to buy an iPod touch. The new software available on the touch seems to have been one of the most controversial aspects of the keynote. But to me the prospect of having those key apps, without hacking, coupled with the recent discovery [...]

MarkJardine.com

Really nice personal website from Mark Jardine.

Standards for Life » Oh, Things, How I Love Thee

Natalie Jost has a great write up of how she uses the new task manager app Things.
The way she has it setup has really helped me to understand how powerful and how I can make Things work. It’s inspired me to give the app another chance.

MacBook Air as “big iPod”

Fraser Speirs tells us his take on the MacBook Air. He raises an interesting idea, and something which I would like to see Apple deliver, about syncing files in a similar manner to music and the iPod.

Originality in Web Design

Kyle Meyer at Astheria ask an important question about Originality in Web Design.
“What print design seems to have an advantage in is that it is a physical medium, using different materials lead to interesting textures, lighting plays a factor, etc. But what’s to say that we can’t grab a scanner or digital camera and work [...]

BusySync 2.0 & Google Calendar

BusySync is set to a get very impressive update which allows it to sync with Google Calendar. I tried BusySync in the initial beta and was very impressed but couldn’t afford it at the time. Now I have a job and the prospect of keeping my iBook, iMac and GCal in sync looks [...]

WW1: Experiences of an English Soldier

WW1: Experiences of an English Soldier. A fascinating blog where a grandson is publishing the letters his grandfather wrote in the first world war. They are exactly 90 years to the day after they were written.

This blog is made up of transcripts of Harry Lamin’s letters from the first World War. The [...]
